About The Big Picture
The Big Picture is a website devoted
to metaphysical speculation about the nature of life, and the
practical application of spirituality in daily life. At The Big
Picture, we believe that consciousness is non-physical, that it
is eternal and divine. We believe that all human beings are
spiritual beings temporarily associated with physical bodies.
We believe that Spirit and Matter
are two aspects of a divine, animating and directing
Universal Principle, and that matter itself is composed of
thought. In this view, which has spanned millennia of thought,
there really is no separation between biology, matter, and
Spirit. All three are interconnected.
We also believe in the existence of
universal laws that empower each and every person on an
individual basis. We believe that the only reason a person does
not achieve success is because of self-limiting beliefs to the
contrary.
There can be no scientific proof of
these laws broadly, or anything written on this website -- and
we have no argument with science. Indeed we have a deep respect
for the brilliant minds who seek to uncover the laws of matter
and energy.
Nevertheless, there is something
missing from science, for if consciousness is non-physical and
matter itself exists within a field of consciousness, then
science cannot measure or describe it.
When metaphysics attempts to intrude
into scientific realms, more often than not it fails to
convince. As the great mathematician Carl Gauss once said,
"When a philosopher
says something that is true then it is trivial. When he says
something that is not trivial then it is false."
It is equally true however, that
when science attempts to debunk
spirituality, it fails miserably. That is because within each
one of us is an unshakable understanding of our spiritual
nature. Such a thing cannot be proven, it cannot be measured, it
must be felt.
Of course we will all discover the
answer when we "die." Death is the moment of truth for us all. I
am afraid that those who believe that consciousness is snuffed
out upon death of the body will have a terrible time of it.
Those who believe in their own immortality will transition
easily. The end result for both, however, is a return to
complete joy. All endings are happy endings!
The Big Picture contains numerous
essays, books and movies which are written in an attempt to uplift and inspire the
reader to a recognition of his or her divine nature. I am not
here to proselytize, or try to get you to change your beliefs.
With the above in mind, I hope you will enjoy your Big Picture
experience.
